Greece is not getting the job done, in protecting itself from illegal immigrants. It's difficult to get greek citizenship if you come in Greece, and most importantly, you'll probably starve
2 :
Half of all Greek descendants live outside of Greece and have migrated to other countries. Before the financial collapse a lot of Greeks immigrated back to Greece. Now they use their EU citizenship to escape to Northern Europe to find work.

In order to became a Greek citizen you ll have to live in Greece for more than 10 years (in a row), and be able to pass some tests about Greece (language, etc). Its not easy to became a Greek citizen.

I have met many of you with the same question: how to stay, work and live in Greece? Well, get a ticket, go to a Greek island and get a job for the summer. Not being a EU passport holder, you wil not get much but you will get a wage that will not make you starve. Then you enjoy greek life, the food and learn some greek. After three months of this you wil be able to make your own decision whether to stay or not. I have met many people from Australia, New Zealand and the States who do this year after year. They clean toilets (Mykonos), wait at restaurants and tavernas (Porto Cheli), or clean houses (Santorini). In Greece there is an estimated 1 million Albanians who live legally; Remember Albania is not a member of the EU (they they cannot legally work here, just like a Mexican), but they come, do the work others don't want to do and get a residence permit. Like I said, go and see for yourself!

Right now I don't think migrating to Greece is the best idea. Greeks have been supporting immigrants from all over the world for many many years, but right now their own jobs and general financial situation is experiencing huge difficulties. Therefore, their priority is to find ways to solve the problem. Problem won't be solved by adding more immigrants. Actually, problem has a chance to be solved if politicians take the proper measures to control the movement of foreigners to Greece.
