Is it expensive to live on some of Greece's islands

Is it expensive to live on some of Greece's islands?
Which is the cheapest island to live on, in Greece? How much income do you need in order to live in an apartment and be able to also afford the daily neccessities (electricity, food, etc.), on any of the Greek islands? Is rent generally cheaper for Greeks, than foreigners, or are the same rates usually offered regardless nationality?

Certain islands can be incredibly cheap. For example, Gavdos Fournoi, Lipsoi can be down right cheap as they are inhabited by very few people and the boat services to them are not regular. People on them live on their own produce and if you spent the winter there then it will be easier for you to get lower prices.

1. Yes. 2. Gaidouronissi. 3. That would be up to; your income capacity, not rapidly-dwindling savings, or, borrowing capabilities. 4. Yes. 4a. No.

I second airpole, and I would like to add that there are 80 inhabited islands out of approx 6000 and only about 10 or so are considered to be "cosmopolitan", and even for these there are parts where tourists never go and winter is equally harsh for all of them. My favorite "remote island' is Ai Stratis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Eustratius_(Island) Regarding rent. Before you go to live there for ever, go a couple of times and spend some time there. get to know some locals and most important give them a chance to know you. Island societies are extremely close knit and you have to live along them the long months of winter Once you know them and you somehow get accepted in. trivial issues like rents will be shorted out automatically.

Not all. But if you want Mykonos for example, it is.
