How can i move to/ live in greece

How can i move to/ live in greece?
I am a high school graduate Here in the united states. I am weighing between 2 options ... one is setting money back and just moving there, the other involves joining the us coast guard for some possible training in a certain skill ... my questions are as follows... 1. if i just up and left, how much would i have to make just to live there (quite simply - just a place to sleep, go to work, and eat - maybe hit up a beach once in a while) 2. how much would you recommend setting before i make the trip, and what jobs could i do? i might like doing jobs in bars, maybe even health clubs, or something simple like that 3. if i were to wait, and get training, what skills are in demand there? this is the option i'll most likely choose, but dont want to get into the wrong field... anyway, sorry for the weird format here, just in a hurry to get to work... any answers will help, and be brutally honest if you must... anyway, only 72 chars left ... g2g just as an edit .... I'll be looking to share a room with someone who already lives there - possibly more than 1 person who knows... as far as college goes, right now as it stands, there's no way that's going to happen - unless i enter the military and get some kind of computer training or something useful there.... which reminds me of something - If I were to move out there, (to anyone who currently lives there) How would I go about joining the military? I already know how to obtain a citizenship an all, but is it possible for an outsider to join with some kind of work permit or whatever? or is it even possible for an outsider to join at all? I am very big on the military, and if I could do that over there, that'd be awesome. This part is aimed mainly at ex americans in greece, who might be able to help with things i might need 2 know before leaving this country... stuff most people don't think about usually. Ah well, IDK, its just a few extra random things to ponder...

I will have to warn you that it is one thing to come to Greece for vacation and a very different thing to come here to work. Now presumably you have Greek origin? Can you speak the language? Most people here speak English but you will have more options for work if you can speak some Greek The cost of living is very high in Athens and it drops as you move in the countryside. Just for rent you will need in Athens at least €400 .... I guess you will need minimum €1000 in Athens and €800 anywhere else. Finding a job that pays that much is not easy especially if you are just a high school graduate. Working in a bar will get you €30 tops with no insurance, in a health club it is about €3/hr... that's peanuts. By the way you cannot just come and work here, unless it is illegally. You need a Greek card, but I do not know the procedure to get one. To be honest with you in my opinion is best to finish college (Coast guard will teach you nothing that is of value here) Try computers, automation or anything high tech. I warn you that living here it is not easy for a US born person. Things are different here, and unless you are of Greek origin you'll have to face the Greek dislike for Americans... Best of luck

Well, I totally agree with Kimon.. Do finish college and try to start working in the US for starters. If you really want to come to work here in Greece you must keep in mind that in order to afford a decent life in a decent place to live you need at least 1000€ in Athens. Working in a bar is a good solution, there are bars that pay 40-50€ per night (tips not included) but that ALWAYS depend on your experience as a barman and on the place that you work. Health clubs if you are a trainer (with a university degree) pay aprox 500-600€ which is like... nothing and you cannot support yourself. Unfortunately the jobs you are thinking of having here in Greece are not that permanent.. You should know some Greek, that would really help you to find a job here. You may seek a job at www.kariera.gr / www.skywalker.gr but I think that most adds (not to say the website) are in Greek.
